It’s time to introduce dress code

Dear Editor,

I am very much impressed while reading a news item that the government of Mizoram has imposed decent dress code for school students. The step is really an eye opener for us. Frankly speaking, nowadays teenaged girls prefer to wear mini skirts as shortest as possible and boys prefer low-waist pants which are shameful and odd looking.  Moreover they are also using many dangerous and harmul cosmetic ingredients instead of natural, organic and safe personal care products.  In this way,   they are giving more interest in glamour world than their studies and we are gradually losing our identity.  The main identity of a students is his dress and behavior.

So, I appeal the government of Arunachal Pradesh too to impose decent dress and hair code for school going students from Primary to Higher Secondary level irrespective of private as well as Government schools.  The authorities may impose penalty of ` 500 to ` 1000 and even may take drastic action like expulsion from school in case of repeated violation of the dress and hair code.

Yours,

Toko Lel

Renovate the Lodge

Dear Editor,

Recently, I visited Tawang which is famous for many delightful sight and historical places such as Sela Pass, war memorial of Jaswant Garh, Madhuri Lake, Tawang Monastery, beautiful water fall and above all the good behavior of people.

But I am appalled to see the condition of the tourist lodge in Tawang being run by state tourist department. Lodge is in miserable situation. Some parts of the roof of the building were in decaying condition.

I request the caretaker of the lodge, particularly the tourist department in Tawang  to renovate the Lodge and   improve the service.

Yours,

Memmo Loyi

Itanagar

A tale of a SSA teacher

Taba Ajum

ITANAGAR, Nov 19:  Few days ago during a visit to one of the leading hospitals of Itanagar to see a relative of mine, who was admitted there, I bumped into a young man of 24, who was taking care of his ill-father, admitted just adjacent to my relative. At first instant, I was touched by seeing strong love and affection between father and son. Gradually as I started visiting my relative frequently, I struck a conversation with father-son duo and got to know that son is employed as Assistant Teacher under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan somewhere in Arunachal.

I always knew that most of the teachers employed under SSA work in challenging condition with meagre amount of salary.  But talking to this SSA teacher, I felt his pain and thought to share his plight with our esteem readers.

“I have got calls after calls from my colleagues telling that villagers are complaining against me as I have not been able to join school for past 15 days due to my father’s ill health. They don’t understand the fact that my father is fighting for his life and I can’t leave him alone,” he narrates while telling me about his experience of being an SSA teacher.  He continues, “I have been very regular in my duty and only this month because of my father’s ill health, I could not take class. But just because am an SSA teacher and not a regular employee, villagers are complaining against me. Such kind of act really brings down the spirit of SSA teachers.”

Stunned and dumbfounded I kept listening to his narration. Slowly he poured his heart out and went on to tell, “Most young SSA teachers like me are very sincere towards their job. As most of these boys and girls are employed in life for the first time, they are genuinely interested to contribute something to the society. Most of SSA teachers themselves were educated in government schools, so they care for poor student of government schools.”

He also told me despite giving cent percent dedicated service people never gives SSA teachers their due respect. “We work so dedicatedly but still no one cares. Public have this pre-occupied notion that SSA teachers are not honest to their work and are only passing time.  It’s wrong on their part to think like that. We get demoralize by such attitude”.

Meanwhile in the mid of our conversation his mobile starts ringing and looking at the screen, he tells me, “It’s call from village ASM who is also chairman of school management community.”  He answered call and was trying to explain him about his father’s serious medical condition. Two of them had five minute of conversation and I walked away for a while in order to give him privacy. After finishing conversation, he told me, “I guess I have no choice but to leave my ailing father in hospital and attend school duty. ASM has warned me that if I don’t join work within two days, they will complain to higher ups and I can’t afford to lose this job.” I just had no words but still advised him not to leave his ailing father.

Next day when I went to the hospital, I could not find the boy. His old mother was alone taking care of his ailing father. The illiterate village women who could barely speak broken Assamese was now going around and buying medicine for his beloved husband. I asked when your son will come back and she answered, “No idea.”

Tribal ethics of humanity has always taught us the need of caring and loving each other. Modernization does not mean we become ruthless human being and take advantage of sad plight of another fellow human.
